In the recent authorization obtained by our solar park Ullum to issue certificates of emission reduction, we review this environmental initiative which pioneered Argentina Genneia New York, May 9, 1992. Representatives from various countries adopt the Convention United Nations Framework on Climate Change , recognizing as real a process of more than 100 years that endangers the planet: the climate change . Does your cause? The increased accumulation of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere (mainly carbon dioxide or CO2), product of industrialization, deforestation and large-scale agriculture. In the Convention it is encouraged developed countries to stabilize their emissions and to bet on sustainable economic development. Five years later, the Kyoto Protocol implements the Convention treaties and establishes a number of specific mechanisms to achieve this. Among them, the certified emission reduction (CER) . RECs are tradable certificates, ie exchangeable goods with a price established in the market, which can be marketed internationally. Each CER represents a certain amount of carbon units have been reduced (VCUs, Carbon Units Verified). They can issue them and market them all those private projects which certified reduce GHG emissions. In the world there are different markets where these certificates market. One of them is the Clean Development Mechanism, operated by the United Nations (CDM). Another is the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), administered by Verra, a global non-profit organization. Companies and projects concerned to issue CERs enroll in these markets and, after a rigorous evaluation process of their cuts and their economic, social and environmental management, obtain certification and the ability to issue and sell CERs. Genneia it has been a pioneer in Argentina in this environmental initiative. With savings certificate of 204,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year, our Rawson Wind Farm was the first large-scale central Argentina enabled by VCS to issue CERs. Thus, since 2015, Genneia offers these certificates to companies interested in offset their carbon footprint and starred the biggest selling CERs operations in recent years. Including the sale of 70 thousand VCUs by Natura cosmetics company that neutralized its emissions generated in Argentina between 2013 and 2016. To this day, three new wind farms Genneia obtained enabling CDM and VCS, which adds Ullum, the first Argentine solar park registered to issue CERs. "We are proud to participate in international initiatives working to combat the climate crisis, is our chosen path as a company," says Walter Woolly, CEO of Genneia.
