Genneia offset 100% of the carbon footprint of its administrative headquarters 2019
Clothing and other items we buy, the energy we consume, the means of transport we use: all our choices have an environmental impact, known as carbon footprint . Calculable mass of carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere, said mark arises activities of individuals and organizations. With sustainability in our DNA, in Genneia we assume the challenge to offset our footprint neutralize all emissions from activities during 2019 in the administrative headquarters of the company. To do this, on 31 October last year, we canceled a total of 2,400 tons of CO2 with emissions reduction certificates (RECs) belonging to our Rawson Wind Farm. What they are and how they work RECs? Renewable centers Genneia save annually 1.1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions , one of the main gases responsible for the greenhouse effect. This environmental contribution has been assessed and certified by international auditors, authorizing us to issue CERs, also known as carbon credits. RECs are tradable certificates that can be traded internationally in different markets. They are a tool to stimulate investment in GHG reduction projects. And also an alternative for those players wishing to offset their carbon footprint can do so by purchasing them. To neutralize the carbon footprint generated in 2019 by our administrative headquarters ?ubicada in Olivos (Buenos Aires province) ? first we calculate emissions from variables as all tasks performed by employees in the building, participation in training and events, and land and air transportation. The sum of each of these sources resulted in 2,402 tonnes of carbon emissions unavoidable. With this information, Genneia asked Verra, the non-profit organization that administers the voluntary market VCS, the withdrawal of verified carbon units equivalent and correspond to the Rawson Wind Farm. Note that this operation RECs cancellation occurs days after that Genneia announced that neutralize the carbon footprint of the 56th Colloquium of IDEA .
