The “Ideas Tour” is an initiative that took TEDx speakers on tour across different locations of the City of Buenos Aires on November 27 and 28

_____

The “Ideas Tour” was the format chosen by TEDx RíodelaPlata to go back to in-person talks, after a year of a lot of virtual activity. For two days, an open-top bus toured around the City of Buenos Aires with surprise stops in public spaces, where speakers shared their talks and artistic performances were also presented. We at Genneia joined this initiative by offsetting the carbon footprint of the event. For such purposes, we first measured the energy consumed and emissions generated during development; then, we issued equivalent Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), from our Rawson Wind Farm, as a result of which the “Ideas Tour" was declared as carbon neutral.

Ariel “Hache” Merpert, one of the founders of TEDx RíodelaPLata, commented about Genneia’s contribution: "We would like to thank you once again for your support in driving positive changes, setting ideas in motion and encouraging changes among more and more people driven by the power of ideas".

About the CERs

CERs or o carbon credits are negotiable certificates traded at market-determined prices, that may be traded at the international level. Each certificate represents a certain amount of carbon units that have been reduced (VCUs –Verified Carbon Units). They may be issued and traded by all such private projects and undertakings that have certified their contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, for example, renewable energies.

There are different markets worldwide on which these certificates may be traded. One of them is the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), operated by the United Nations. And Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) is managed by Verra, a global not-for-profit organization.

With certified reductions equal to 204,000 t emissions of CO2 per year, our Rawson Wind Farm was the first large-scale plant in Argentina authorized by VCS to issue CERs. Hence, since 2015, Genneia has been offering these certificates to companies and events interested in offsetting their carbon footprint.
