Buenos Aires, August 8, 2022. Genneia, the leading renewable energy generation company in the country, announced that it offset emissions from its administrative head office in 2021. In this way, and for the fourth consecutive year, it cancelled a total amount of 1,857 tons of greenhouse gases to the environment with Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) from its Rawson Wind Farm.

The footprint neutralized by Genneia comprises emissions by all personnel assigned to the head office, work-related travels by air and land, electric power consumption and office supplies. By measuring and reducing each process, to take carbon dioxide emissions to a minimum, the company’s emissions were offset in a responsible manner in line with its sustainability policy related to the reduction of greenhouse gases.

“This action is taken as part of the company’s global strategy pursued in relation to emissions, in an attempt to reduce generation to the greatest possible extent, thus aligning its inventory with the GHS International Protocol, and having an independent external verification while supporting the renewable segment growth in line with the commitment to a sustainable energy transition,” said Carolina Langan, Genneia’s Head of Sustainability.

The company has an active role in the Carbon Credit market, making CERs available in the country. In this manner, it has enabled companies such as Natura and Banco Galicia to neutralize their carbon footprints. In addition, it collaborated in Argentina with “Argentina Makes an Impact”, the Córdoba Open ATP 250, TEDxRíodelaPlata, the Argentine Soccer Cup Final 2021, the IDEA Seminar events, among others, so that they could cancel their emissions.

In turn, since 2021, the company has incorporated Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC), a type of certificate that serves as a “warranty of source” and it allows end users around the world to make reliable claims about the source of the energy they use. They are highly useful instruments for those who are interested in mitigating the impacts associated with the consumption of energy from fossil sources and offsetting their carbon footprint. In this sense, Genneia is one of the main issuers of both instruments and has engaged in substantial transactions with companies from different industries.

“As a company committed to environmental protection and clean energies, we understand that this is the path we should follow to make the planet a more sustainable place. These actions enable us to raise awareness about the importance of implementing environmentally friendly practices and providing concrete and immediate responses to the global climate crisis we are facing,” concluded Gustavo Castagnino, Director of Corporate, Regulatory Affairs and Sustainability |ESG at Genneia.
