May 17, Buenos Ayres. Natura Cosmetics announced the acquisition of 70 thousand bonds of the voluntary market corresponding carbon to the Wind Farm Rawson of Genneia , the largest in Argentina. The transaction, which closed more than 4 million pesos, allows Natura certify a reduction of 70 thousand tons of C02 and thus offset the emissions generated in the country in the period 2013-2016 as part of its carbon neutral program launched in 2007. The announcement gains special importance for being not only the biggest deal for the sale of carbon credits between private companies in the country , but the first Argentine wind power project registered and marketed in the voluntary bond market. The reductions were certified by the VCS standard (VerifiedCarbon Standard), the leading voluntary market for carbon credits worldwide.
It is the first investment of this kind of Natura in the country, which so far had supported 23 energy and forestry projects of carbon in the Pan region; mainly in Brazil, and also in Colombia and Peru. Under the Carbon Neutral , the company assumed the challenge of measuring the impact of its entire production chain and promote continuous reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases through public commitments. Emissions that can not be avoided neutralized supporting offset projects that also have a strong innovative profile and positive impact for local communities, as was the case of the community Aboriginal Rondônia (Brazil), the first indigenous program to sell bonds carbon globally in 2013.
"When we started assessing local projects to neutralize our emissions in the country, the Wind Farm Rawson represented the best option because it allowed us not only to support a key sector for sustainable development of the country but accompany Genneia in this first certification can open a new field of investment", said Leone Diego, Natura Argentina's CEO.
For Genneia, lead company at operation and development of wind power in the country was only the first step, as it is now able to incorporate the new certificates least 180,000 emission reduction per year. "We are proud to be the first energy company in Argentina that manages to sell bonds. Also, Natura has been the first company with which we achieve this exchange.
