Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) allow our clients to certify the clean origin of the energy they consume in their operations.
What are RECs?
A renewable energy certificate is an accounting instrument that represents the environmental attributes y and social aspects of generating one megawatt-hour (MWh) of energy from renewable sources. It includes factual information about how and when the electricity was generated.
What are they used for?
RECs allow the clean origin of energy consumed during a company's operations to be certified. By purchasing them, our clients can reduce their scope 2 emissions (electricity consumption). It's a decarbonization solution for those who cannot purchase renewable energy directly and for large MEM users who do not wish to sign a renewable PPA. They are also used by our MATER clients to support their renewable consumption in carbon footprint reports.
