Genneia, former Emgasud, is organized on the 24th October, 1991 in the autonomous city of Buenos Aires. Twenty days later it is registered in the Public Registry with the purpose of exploiting the distribution of undiluted propane gas in Dolores, province of Buenos Aires for 99 years.
After the enactment of Act No. 24.076 ('Natural Gas Act'), GENNEIA, former Emgasud obtains the authorization to distribute natural gas in Dolores, as a sub-distributor, managing non essential own assets and counting on the possibility of carrying out regulated and non regulated activities, which offers a comparative leverage.
Fides Group, present shareholder, acquires the company and GENNEIA- former Emgasud, gives its first step in the construction of a network for natural gas, with the distribution pipeline that would shortly after supply all the Dolores area. From that moment on, it has built and expanded gas networks in every area it operates as a gas distributor.
It obtains the permission to operate and expand natural gas networks, as a Sub-distributor in Pinamar, Cariló, Valeria del Mar and Ostende, in la province of Buenos Aires. With the authorization of ENARGAS, it starts to buy and transport gas directly.
The subsidiary Enersud Energy S.A. is created with the purpose of developing non regulated activities for the commercialization and transport of natural gas, and other connected services. Within the framework of Act 24.076, the authorization of ENARGAS (Gas Regulatory Authority) to build the Patagonian Pipeline is obtained.
On March 22, the Regular and Special Meeting decide to modify the corporate name from 'Empresa de Gas del Sudeste – Emgasud S.A.' to the shorter Emgasud S.A., nowadays GENNEIA. The works for the Patagonian Pipeline begin. It stretches from the proximities of Comodoro Rivadavia to Esquel, with a length of 540 km deep in the territory of the province of Chubut. That same year GENNEIA- former Emgasud, adds the distribution of natural gas in Santa Clara del Mar, Province of Buenos Aires.
On October 6, with the presence of the President of the Republic, the Patagonian Pipeline is inaugurated in Tecka, province of Chubut, improving greatly the standard of living of the Patagonian population and ensuring a regular supply of natural gas for a sustainable development of the region. The first stage for the construction of the Fueguino Pipeline loop is begun.
GENNEIA -former Emgasud, starts to develop power generation projects on its own and through its subsidiaries. Within the framework of the Energy Plus Program, devised by the Energy Secretariat, GENNEIA -former Emgasud and the Province of Chubut create Ingentis S. A. in the month of April. Its objective is to build and operate a combined cycle power plant of 400 MW, fed with natural gas from the Patagonian Pipeline and a wind farm of 100 MW in Dolavon, province of Chubut. Pampa Energía joins soon after, as a private shareholder.
The Patagonian Pipeline is enabled commercially and GENNEIA -former Emgasud, initiates its activities as natural gas transporter, supplying the Cordillerano pipeline, in the connection point with Esquel and taking natural gas to mountain and intermediate areas in the province of Chubut. The presence of the company in the province is reinforced the following month, when both enter into a contract for the generation of energy in Gobernador Costa and Río Mayo, finishing in May 2008 the authorization for branches to Río Pico and Corcovado, in the province of Chubut. Go to 'Business Units. Gas Transport Patagonian Pipeline.'
In September, ENARSA issues a public invitation to bids to supply electric power in 10 areas of the Argentine Republic, using equipment mounted on portable units that include installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of such units. Emgasud was the successful bidder for CT Pinamar, in the province of Buenos Aires.
Pinamar’s power plant, with 4 turbines of 5 MW each begins its commercial operations in January. ENARSA launches a new invitation to public bid for 'The Provision of Services and/or Equipment for Distributed Electric Generation II' with similar characteristics to the first calling. The company is awarded Matheu, Olavarría, Dolores (then relocated to Bragado) and Las Armas, all in the province of Buenos Aires, Paraná and Concepción del Uruguay, in the province of Entre Ríos.
Secondary branches of the Patagonian Pipeline are enabled in May, allowing natural gas to reach two other Chubut areas: Río Pico and Corcovado. By mid September and after CAMMESA (Wholesale Electric Market Management Company) issues the commercial permission, Matheu’s thermal power plant of 42 MW begins its operations. By the end of November, the Americans AEI join GENNEIA- former Emgasud, as shareholders.
The company presents on January 20, before the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange their first Prospect to issue simple Corporate Bonds non convertible into shares, in order to back their growth process. The result is highly satisfactory and soon after the company issues debt certificates for US$ 115 million. GENNEIA -former Emgasud, decides to discontinue its participation in Ingentis S.A. and pursuant to the Stock Purchase Agreement, they yield their part in February to Pampa Energía S. A. Paraná Power Plant opens in May 6, in the province of Entre Ríos, with an installed capacity of 42 MW.
A similar milestone takes place on September 28, when Olavarría’s Power Plant starts its operation, also with 42 MW. The company presents several offers in ENARSA’s international public bidding to buy electric power from renewable sources.
Las Armas power plant, in the district of Maipú, province of Buenos Aires opens in January 26, with an installed capacity of 10 MW. ENARSA announces the result of the domestic and international bid within the framework of the program GENREN and awards GENNEIA -former Emgasud, and its partners, 300 wind MW, 110 thermal and biofuel MW and 20 MW of photovoltaic solar power.
Construction works for Rawson’s Wind Farm (Chubut) begin in January. 43 wind turbines are to be installed in a 1500 hectares area (3700 acres) with a total capacity of 80 MW.
An expansion of CT Las Armas is also inaugurated during this month, which now adds 24.9 MW.
CT Bragado, with an installed capacity of 50 MW, starts it commercial operations on June 16th. With AEI withdrawing from the country, new shareholders appear: Fintech Fund and the Brito-Carvallo family.
On the 1st of January, the Argentine Interconnected System (SADI) receives in full all the energy Rawson I Wind Farm generates. Twenty days after, it begins to send energy to Rawson II Wind Farm.
Shareholders decide to drive a change in the company’s strategic vision, to concentrate their efforts in the development of electric power generation, particularly from renewable sources. The materiality of the determination also appeared in the company name and EMGASUD gives way to a new corporate identity: GENNEIA, a word that implies origin, generation and energy (from the Greek word energeia).
Within the framework of this new business strategy and pursuant to Resolution I-2408 and Note 2278 from ENARGAS, GENNEIA S.A. transfers as of 3/9/2013 the provision of services for the distribution of natural gas through the networks of Dolores, Pinamar, Cariló, Valeria del Mar, Ostende and Santa Clara del Mar to PROA GAS S.A., a company formed entirely by executives and workers that, up to that date, had provided the exact same service on behalf of GENNEIA (and before that, to EMGASUD SA)
On Monday 29th December, the company surpasses 1,000 GWh of generated energy in a single year. From this figure we can separate 708 GWh produced by thermal power plants, with a 70% on the total, while the rest belongs to Rawson Wind Farm (PER) with 292 GWh that serve the national interconnected system.
While the demand from the Wholesale Electricity Market towards Genneia has not differed much in the past three years, 2014 showed an optimization in dispatch conditions and the availability of thermal resources. This was the consequence of the improvement that came with the maintenance plan and the works carried out in the power plants, as is the case of the demineralized water plants. In PER’s case, the optimal conditions of Rawson’s wind resources and the high availability index reached, allowed a new record for annual generation.
216 MW wind power (RenovAr rounds 1 and 1.5) and 118 MW thermal power (Resolution 21/2016) awarded to Genneia.
We expanded our project´s portfolio with the completion of Bragado Thermal Power Plant and Rawson Wind Farm; and the acquisition of GETSA Thermal Power Plant and Trelew Wind Farm (former Loma Blanca IV).
In 2018, we signed the first power purchase agreement between private parties (Resolution 281). We acquired 100% of the shares of Ullum 1 Solar SA, Ullum 2 Solar SA and Ullum 3 Solar SA (RenovAr 1.5) with 82 MW power and completed the construction of the Madryn I, Villalonga I, Chubut Norte I Wind Farms and Ullum Solar Power Plant.
Inauguration of Chubut Norte I and Villalonga II wind farms, and the first Generation Control Center (CECO) of the country, from where all our assets are monitored. With the iniciation of the operation of stage II of the project, Madryn Wind Farm became the greatest wind farm in Argentina.
Vientos de Necochea Wind Farm achieved commercial operation.
Stages II, III and IV of Chubut Norte Wind Farm project achieved commercial operation, marking the conclusion of Genneia´s 2017-2021 investment plan.
